I'v finished every month off so far this year with a self portrait or caricature. I have seldomly attempted to draw myself at profile. Not sure this one is a huge success, but that's ok with me. It gives me a bar to continue to raise. I think June 30th I'll try a caricature at profile. I consider this one a bit more comic book inspired.
As for the rest of the characters, I feel that the rest will be rounded out by the end of the week!
Well if there was ever a character request I'v taken liberties with (which I said I might) it was this fella. Truth be told, I think there are going to be a few more liberties taken before these characters are wrapped up.
So Lori picked a monkey and a writer. Now if you're as big a geek as I am I'm sure the dots are already connected. This is the third monkey I'v done, so trying to 'spice' things up, I lent off of the coolest "fictional" writer I know, Clark Kent AKA Superman AKA Kal El.
Well, if it wasn't clear how in to comic books I am before, I think it's safe to say it's all out there now.
So again a huge thanks to those whom participated in my challenge for custom character designs. Unfortunately all good things must come to an end however. I'v actually got a ton of other projects that require a bit more of my time as of late. That is why as of midnight tonight my promise expires.
Due to the overwhelming response I will be posting more characters over the next two weeks based off of all your answers. Please keep checking in. I will also no doubt end up throwing another challenge out in the future.
Again thanks every one! To all of you who took the time to stop by my blog and comment, you rock!
So this gal was inspired by Katy, who's animal was an Owl and whom wanted to be a teacher when she grew up.
Dave's ridiculous response will be tomorrows sketch.
Alright. This is an illustration I did last night for a bit of fun. Slight break from the character designs here. I'll be back at em tomorrow. Speaking of tomorrow, after midnight pacific time tomorrow night I will no longer take submissions for the character challenge.
Again, huge thanks to those whom left their reply in the comments section.
Alright! This gem was brought to us via Vahe's pick's, 'Hockey Player' and 'Warthog'. Join in tomorrow to check out Melissa's picks.
Also!! I went back in to spend a bit more time on a couple previous entries that didn't get as much love the first time around.
Lastly!!! I can't thank those whom have contributed answers / character concepts over these past couple of weeks enough, however all good things must come to an end. The call for ideas was met with an overwhelming response; much more so than I expected. I currently have enough suggestions via response to last me a week or two here.
So if you want a character designed you have till the end of day Friday to comment here at drawn by Erik.
Again, can not thank those who have shared enough. I promise this challenge won't be the last I put to those who check in and comment here.
I just returned home from another amazing night at church. I once again was able to contribute to the service by painting digitally behind our pastor Dave while he gave the sermon. This series focuses on story. Tonight's installation centered more closely on taking risks vs. safety. References to Peter's risks, including walking on water, were used to illustrate the point.
The above painting took about 15 to 20 minutes (i'll keep a closer eye on exact time next time)
The character design requests aren't done, I'm just taking a day to both post some recent zoo drawings and catch up on things. Chris' character will be posted tomorrow. In the meanwhile check out my zoo drawings. I'v never tried caricaturing animals before, and that's exactly what I was going for here. Can't wait to hit the zoo again soon.
Here you go (username)'Fatty'. I decided to have a bit of extra fun with your request. Fatty wanted to be a ballerina when he/she grew up and couldn't narrow down a favorite animal between polar bear, monkey, gorilla, and a panda bear. So here's a day at the ballet with all four. Didn't have time today to drop in tone and color, but really do plan on revisiting this set of characters as these were a blast to create.
Still not too late to join the fun. Drop me a line.
Alright. So here ya go Michelle. Thanks so much for your reply. I would never have thought to conceive such a character. Michelle's animal and profession was "Housewife & Duck". Tomorrow will be Steve's picks.
It's not too late to have your character drawn, just drop me a reply in the comments section with an interesting/favorite animal of yours and what you wanted to be when you grew up.
So my friend MikeHelped me come up with this guy. I asked him for an animal and what he wanted to be when he grew up, to which he replied 'octopus and astronaut'. Now granted I embellished a bit, but I thank him for the idea.
How about you? Give me a wild, favorite, or just fun animal. Then list what you wanted to be when you grow up.
If you post a reply in my comments, I promise I will design your character. It's a fun exercise for me and I would very much like to round out my character design portfolio.
Thanks in advance for any and all whom reply, and stay tuned!
