Happy Halloween 08' pt.1

I really have a love for the classic monsters. These are just fun sketches working on character designs.

Scenic Painting is Swell

Well its been a bit longer than I had realized since last I posted, so I hope to make up for that this week with a multitude of posts. The catch is that not all these posts are technically drawings, but none the less do fall into the category of my artwork. October has been a blessed month for myself so far. I have been fortunate enough to find work for a couple weeks freelancing in the wonderful world of scenic painting. As well, I completed a brand new animation portfolio that I will be posting on my website within a week or so.

So let this be part 1 of my catching up via the blog. Pictured here are a series of miniature houses as well as a fun tree I painted for an installation in a local theme park. I'll try and get pictures of the props installed and in their new home up soon. I promise I didn't just pose for these pics. Nope. That right there is the real deal. Look at me go.

5D Conference '08

I was fortunate enough to attend the first annual 5D Conference this past weekend. If you are unfamiliar with the event I would strongly recommend looking into it. I'm pretty sure their website has a pretty good rundown of the show and what it's all about. There where some great panels and workshop's to attend. I look forward to future conferences. Here are a couple sketches I did of those in attendance from Sunday's panels.

project sketches

The top two pages are some conceptual roughs for the most recent set of animation story boards I'm developing. I'll post the boards themselves when they are complete. The bottom page is the second round revisions for the Big Nowhere characters. I tried to simplify some of the details in the facial features. There is also a new character included in this batch. Maybe not the most exciting batch of work, but I've been going working non stop lately on building a new animation portfolio, so a lot of really rough drawings and sketches at this stage.
